When last I spoke of this guy, disaster had struck. And it sucked. Bad.
Now my Voidwalker is all finished up and doing a good job of protecting my droogs from danger.
I filled the area between his feet with rock chips and they've done a fantastic job of reinforcing his legs.
To create him, it was basically layer after layer of clear gel. Paint a little black and blue on, add a layer, little more, add a layer, etc. See all the white in the following pictures? That's what the gel looks like while it's wet. When it dries, it gets clear. BUT, if you apply the gel thicker than just a thin layer, the inside isn't able to dry, and you WILL get a white and cloudy final product. (Try sticking it with a pin to get air inside if you make this mistake)
Then, this is what we end up with:
Because of the nature of the gel covering and layering, I wanted to get before and after pics of the varnishing. Above is the glossy pre-varnish, left is the matte varnish. (I knew it'd change it, but didn't realize it'd be so drastic.)
I still think I like it varnished more. There's less of a blue/black contrast, but there is more definition and your eyes also aren't constantly being distracted by white glares. The other problem pre-varnish was that holding the gelled areas caused visible fingerprints to be left on the body.
Take a look at my Step by Step page for the entire Hordebloods project. Here you will find each model broken down into links showing each step: Concept, Works in Progress, (for both modelling and painting) and Final Shots |
